High schools across Missouri are celebrating their seniors’ plans for the future during “Decision Day,” a program sponsored by the Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development.
A news release says “Decision Day” events are held nationwide on or near May 1 – the date by which most high school seniors are asked to notify a college of their plans to enroll. The events celebrate students’ plans to continue their education, enter military service or enter the workforce.
Although Missouri high schools are not attending in-person classes, many schools are hosting virtual events via social media.
In addition to celebrating seniors who have made plans, “Decision Day” helps seniors understand all of their options and take steps to make informed decisions about the future. It reminds students it is not too late to go to college, enter the military, or enroll in other training opportunities.
“Decision Day” was inspired by the NCAA’s “National Signing Day” when student athletes sign a letter of intent to play college sports. Missouri launched “Decision Day” in 2016, and the program continues to grow each year.
Students are encouraged to announce their plans all summer via social media using #MODecisionDay.
Decision Day is one of three “Journey to College” programs sponsored by the department to help Missouri students understand their options for the future, secure financial aid, and succeed in their plans.
