On April 30, the Marshall Municipal Utilities’ Board of Public Works approved a recommendation made by MMU management for a 7.5-percent discount to all electric charges beginning with the June 1, 2020, billing. However, the reduction needed to be approved by the Marshall City Council in order for it to take effect.
After tabling a decision during its meeting on Monday, May 4, the council gave the rate reduction the green light during a special-session meeting on Wednesday, May 6.
Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends said the council needed some legal advice before giving the approval to the request made by MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom.
Arends says the city has an annual budget of about $11.5 million.
