A 31-year-old Kansas City man has been charged with multiple felonies after a high-speed pursuit in Saline County on May 6.
According to a report from a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, the driver of a vehicle refused to yield for a traffic stop and sped away. The suspect vehicle reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour while passing other vehicles on I-70. The vehicle exited onto Southbound U.S. Highway 65 and came to a stop in the median crossover at Deer Park Road.
The driver was identified as Kenneth Barrett. Inside the vehicle, authorities say they located a pistol, a controlled pill, marijuana, a marijuana smoking device, partially-smoked marijuana cigarettes and a glass smoking pipe used for THC wax.
While on camera inside the trooper’s vehicle- Barrett reportedly said to his girlfriend- “I’ll go on the run for a little bit, but I got to get a bond and get bonded out tonight.”
Barrett has been charged with Class D felonies for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; Class E Felonies for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest for a Felony; and two drug-related and two driving-related misdemeanors. He is being held with no bond.
Barrett’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
