Lafayette County Health Department Director, Tom Emerson, released a statement on Thursday, May 14 reporting there were no new cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Lafayette County.
As of Thursday afternoon, Lafayette County Health Department has confirmed a total of 65 cases of COVID-19 in Lafayette County. There are 36 cases recovered and there have been a total of two deaths in the county.
Due to data entry and address discrepancies in the state’s system numbers of total cases reported at the state and federal level may show differently.
According to Emerson, virtually every zip code in Lafayette County has had a case now, and they are still coming in. Although most stay-at-home orders have expired, people are encouraged to still avoid going out in public unless necessary and to strictly follow all the social distancing recommendations, and obeying the reopening rules that your city has in place. Also remember to protect yourself and others.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Stay home if you are sick
- Cover coughs and sneezes using your elbow or shoulder rather than your hands
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces frequently
