A 22-year-old Norborne man has been charged with a couple of felonies after a high-speed pursuit in Lafayette County on May 7.
According to the Higginsville Police Department, shortly after midnight, an officer observed a black Chevy Impala driving at an extremely high rate of speed on 29th Street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle fled, leading officers in a high-speed pursuit. The vehicle continued down Route T and onto eastbound I-70 for over 20 miles prior to the pursuit being terminated. A stop and hold was issued to surrounding law-enforcement agencies. Deputies with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department recognized the vehicle description as a resident in their jurisdiction. The Pettis County Sheriff’s Department made contact with the subjects, and the driver was taken into custody.
August Shull was transported to the Lafayette County jail on a 24-hour hold.
During the investigation, it was determined that there was a small child in the vehicle during the pursuit. The child’s mother also was a passenger.
Shull has been charged with a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree and a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest, Stop or Detention by Fleeing. He is being held at the Lafayette County Jail on $15,000 cash bond.
Shull pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on May 11. His next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
