A Marshall man has been charged with felonies after allegedly illegally being in possession of weapons and a controlled substance earlier this week.
According to a probable-cause statement, on Monday, May 25, Arthur Baxley called the Marshall Police Department and advised an officer that he was going to kill himself, and if law enforcement officers were sent to locate him, he would shoot them. His cell phone was pinged, and it showed he was located on U.S. Highway 65 on the bridge over the Missouri River. However, Saline County deputies were unable to locate Baxley at that time.
Early on Tuesday, May 26, a deputy located Baxley at his residence in Marshall lying in a pickup. Baxley had a handgun on his hip, and authorities seized the weapon. Authorities also located a broken syringe and a crystallized substance, later confirmed as methamphetamine. They also located approximately 80 rounds and three full magazines of ammunition for the firearm.
Baxley, a convicted felon, has been charged with Class D Felonies for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The court has ordered no bond.
Baxley was arraigned on Wednesday, May 27. His next hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Saline County Circuit Court.
