It was a changing of the guard Municipal Election Day in Marshall on Tuesday, June 2.
According to unofficial voting numbers from the county clerk, there will be two new city council members and three new members of the school board.
In a race for Ward 1 Councilman, Leon Thompson edged incumbent Ron Ott 267 to 259. In a race for an open seat in Ward 4, Vernon Craig Thompson received 139 votes to 67 for Phesa Wright. Incumbents Kirk Arends with 342 votes and Dan Brandt with 249 votes in Wards 2 and 3, respectively, ran unopposed and were reelected.
There were seven candidates for three seats on the school board, and Matt Smith emerged with the most votes- 994. Christy Lea Varner was next with 925, followed by Ellen Lance with 807 to unofficially lock up the three seats available. Incumbents Brad Guthrey and Tim Schulte were next with 724 votes and 547, followed by Roger Blakely with 555 and incumbent Kathy Green with 321.
The voting numbers will be certified on Friday, June 5.
