A Sedalia resident is facing a felony charge for alleged theft by deceit in Saline County.
According to a Saline County Deputy’s report, on May 20, two residents told the deputy that they paid $5,000 cash to Zach Hartford, who was subcontracting for a business in Sedalia, to put in a heating and cooling system at a residence on December 13, 2019. The job was supposed to be completed four days later. However, the victims reported they haven’t had any communication with Hartford since, and the job has not been done.
The victims identified Hartford out of photo lineup. In an attempt to locate Hartford, a Sedalia Police officer told the deputy he believes Hartford has relocated to Lakeland, Florida.
A warrant has been issued, and Hartford has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.
Hartford’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
