After approving the Municipal Election results from June 2, two new members were sworn in on the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen during its meeting on Monday, June 8.
According to meeting minutes, John Clevenger- who edged Mark Schmitt 52-50 in Ward 1; and William “Trey” Schleicher III- who defeated former mayor Dee Friel 102-65 in Ward 2- were sworn in by City Clerk Michelle Fuehring. Alderman Boyd Jones was voted president of the board.
Mayor Franny Vaught, who won reelection running unopposed, appointed liaisons to the committees: Wyatt Lea- Police and Recreation; Alderman Jones- Public Works and Library; Alderman Clevenger- Planning and Zoning and Cemetery; and Schleicher- Pool and Park.
The board voted to approve a request made by Public Works Superintendent Nate Lea to raise the electrical components out of the wet well at the Marshall Street lift station. Completed by Alliance Pump, the project will cost $4,412.07.
Aldermen also approved hiring Olivia Hagar, Addison Snider, Kyla Giffen, Leah Eagle, Dominic Weber and Mackenzie Sims as life guards at the pool.
Shannon Hall of the Park Board said construction has started on the all-inclusive playground, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
Hall also informed the board that residents can now call in and pay their water bill at any time using IVR, a pay-by-phone system. She said the customer will need to have their bill because they will need their account number, amount of the bill and jurisdiction code.
