A 28-year-old Cooper County resident who is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly shooting at another vehicle on I-70 in Montgomery County has had his cause continued pending the completion of a psychiatric evaluation.
On April 7, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the report of a shots fired from inside a moving vehicle that struck and disabled a van. The van that was hit by the gunfire had three persons inside. A truck driver also gave an eyewitness account of the incident.
The suspect vehicle was stopped in Boone County, and troopers located a rifle and a pistol with additional magazines. Troopers also observed what appeared to be spent cartridge casings and other evidence indicating a weapon had been fired from inside the vehicle.
Chad Michael Kennedy, of Boonville, is charged with six counts of a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; three counts of a Class B Felony for Assault or Attempt in the First Degree; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The court has ordered Kennedy be held without bond.
At the request of the Department of Mental Health, this case has been continued in order to complete a pretrial evaluation of Kennedy. A bond-appearance hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, July 27, at Montgomery County Circuit Court.
