A 24-year-old Cowgill man is facing a felony charge as a result of an incident that took place in April.
While at the intersection of Highway D and Double D in Norborne, on April 25, a Carroll County Sheriff Deputy was approached by a man stating that he had a gun pulled on him and shots were fired in the air. The victim identified the perpetrator as Justice Burton. Armed with this information, the deputy proceeded to a home on West 2nd Street in Norborne where several witnesses corroborated the victim’s story that Burton had brandished a firearm in a threatening manner. When the deputy spoke with Burton he admitted to drinking alcohol but denied the allegations made against him.
In addition to Burton being accused of brandishing a firearm, witnesses stated prior to him getting the firearm; they observed Burton with his hands around the next of an 18-year-old black man.
Burton is charged with a Class E Felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and a Misdemeanor of Assault in the Fourth Degree. Bond is set at $1,500 with 10-percent allowed.
Burton entered a plea of not guilty during a court proceeding on June 24. His initial arraignment is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14 at Carroll County Circuit Court.
