The Sedalia School District has announced that a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been documented with the Smith-Cotton High School football program.
According the district a letter was sent to Sedalia 200 families and staff members, in an effort to remain transparent with the community.
The letter states that team members and coaches at practices last week were at low-risk exposure to the virus; and as a precaution, all football team activities are being suspended through July 15. While the mandated social distancing practices being enforced by the programs are helpful in reducing risk, team members and coaches are advised to monitor for CDC-defined symptoms of the virus which includes:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Congestion or runny nose
Headache
Sore throat
Newly emerged loss of taste or smell
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
If symptoms develop, you are advised to stay home and consult with your health care provider.
The high school weight room and football locker room are closed through July 15 and each will undergo thorough disinfection as a precaution.
The district will remain in contact with the Pettis County Health Center to ensure the best protocols to provide a healthy environment for all are being followed.
