On Tuesday, July 14, the Lexington City Council unanimously passed a resolution encouraging residents to wear a mask or face covering when visiting public places, such as retail shops, churches and other venues where people gather in close proximity to each other.
According to a release, a cloth face covering should not be placed on children younger than age two; anyone who has trouble breathing; or anyone who is unable to remove the face covering without assistance.
By encouraging residents to wear masks while inside public places, the city council hopes that residents can do their part to stop the recent uptick in cases both in the county and the state. This resolution does not require people to wear a mask – it only encourages people to do so while visiting enclosed public places.
In addition, the council’s resolution directed Mayor Joe Aull to draft a letter to the County Health Department and the County Commission asking them to pass a countywide order requiring people to wear masks or face coverings when visiting enclosed public places where people gather in close proximity to each other.
