A 25-year-old Marshall resident died saving a youth in Cooper County on Monday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joseph Johnson was swimming with family members when a child got caught in the current of the Lamine River. The victim was able to get the child out of the water but was unable to get himself out and drowned. Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Cooper County Coroner at 8:56 p.m.
The incident happened at 7:37 p.m. at the Harriean Hill Access.
