The Marshall School Board discussed the plans for students perhaps returning to school for in-person classes next month during its meeting on Tuesday, July 21.
Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher talked about the goal of the school board.

Dr. Maher said the “Return to Learning Plan” that was discussed at great length was a collaborative effort between several individuals in the district, the Saline County Health Department and others.
After hearing from Saline County Health Department Administrator Tara Brewer and others, including MPS’ Director of Curriculum and Instruction Diane Gillaspie, Dr. Maher outlined the four phases in the plan. Regardless of the phase of the plan decided upon, Dr. Maher said distance learning is still an option for all students in the district.

In the end, Dr. Maher said the district is planning to make a decision about the phase at which the district will enter on August 5.
Unofficial minutes from the meeting say: MPS virtual and on-site students will be working on the same learning standards at the same time. It is the district’s expectation that parents will be able to go on the district’s website and see what their child and others in the same grade or class are doing.
Parents planning on their children staying home need to let the district know they request virtual learning by August 7. If a student enrolls in Launch, MOVA or virtual learning, they will need to stay in the program for at least one semester. This will ensure their credits are counted.
The first day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26.
