An area high school athlete finished in the top 10 in an event at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
According to the NHSRA Facebook live results on Thursday, July 23, Karsyn Fuchs, of Marshall, finished sixth in the girls’ goat-tying event. Her final time in the three runs, including Thursday’s final, was 24.05 seconds. Fuchs finished 15-hundredths of a second better than seventh-place finisher Hannah Giger, of Willburton, Oklahoma; and 39-hundredths of a second behind fifth-place finisher Jessie Ishmael, of Miami, Oklahoma. Madalyn Richards, of Hereford, Texas- who was the overall leader after her first two runs at 14.91 seconds- was the champion with a total time of 22.01 seconds.
Fuchs, who just completed her freshman year at Marshall High School, was tied for sixth after her preliminary rounds with a total time of 15.59 seconds- 7.71 in Round 1 and 7.88 in Round 2. Her time on Thursday was 8.06 seconds.
There were more than 150 competitors in the goat-tying event.
This was Fuchs’ best finish at a national event, having competed each of the last three years at the junior high level.
