The Slater City Council approved a couple of projects to be taken care of during its most-recent meeting.
City Administrator Gene Griffith explains the first is to clean up the Highway 240/Jefferson Station.

Griffith said that’s a wide range of the potential cost, but the council voted to go ahead with the project to remove the tanks. He said then the property will be available to either purchase, rent or tear-down and build something better.
Griffith said the second is a project behind the youth center.

Griffith says the contract has a not-to-exceed amount of $100,000. Griffith says the structure is probably 40 years old and beyond its useful life. He says it’s one of the key electrical connections in the town. “One of these days- a storm or snow or something- is going to cause us some problems and we’re going to be behind the eight ball.”
Griffith says the contractor is scheduled to start on the project on October 1, with a time line of eight weeks.
Griffith also said Mayor Doctor Stephen Allegri announced that a “Cruise Night” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 31, on Main Street. Griffith said no golf carts, UTVs nor ATVs will be allowed, but it is open to area residents.
