According to a release from the Marshall Police Department, at approximately 10:57 p.m. on Monday, July 27, a Marshall Police Department dispatcher observed a driver in a silver Dodge pickup on the Marshall Police Department (MPD) parking lot revving the engine and spinning the tires.
Officers were dispatched to the MPD, however, the pickup left the parking lot prior to MPD Officers arrival.
Marshall Police began receiving telephone calls in regard to a Dodge pickup driving carelessly on Grant Avenue from Clay Street. MPD Officers were dispatched to the area to investigate.
Moments later, 9-1-1 Central Dispatch received approximately three additional calls regarding the same vehicle driving carelessly ranging from traveling all over the road, nearly striking parked vehicles and driving onto residential lawns and causing damage to the lawns by spinning the tires on the vehicle and excessive speed.
At approximately 11 p.m., 9-1-1 Central Dispatch advised a person contacted them and stated they were following a Dodge pickup driving erratically, and the vehicle was last seen traveling onto the Marshall High School parking lot.
Police arrived at MHS and observed property damage to the MHS football field as a result of the pickup going through an outer chain link fence to the field and also tearing up the field by spinning its tires, tearing up the grass and making deep ruts in the end zone. The vehicle then traveled southeast toward the gate opening located near the ticket booth and exited through the opening and back onto the MHS parking lot.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as a 35-year-old man, of Marshall. He was placed under arrest for Careless and Imprudent Driving, Fleeing, Disobeying a lawful order, Property Damage and Violation of an active order of protection. He was transported to the police department without incident.
