The total number of active positive COVID-19 cases is less than 20 in Lafayette County.
The Lafayette County Health Department says of the 135 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the county since the beginning of the pandemic, 114 have recovered. With three deaths, that leaves 18 active cases.
A release from Director Tom Emmerson says the health department reminds everyone it is important to remember that the virus is still prevalent. It is continuing to see exposures in public places and at group meetings. He says it is up to all residents to take personal responsibility and protect each other. He urges you to use your masks in public places. He also recommends that you do not invite gatherings of other people into your home.
Emmerson also says regular cloth face masks are not to protect you from getting the virus. They work to help prevent you from spreading the virus to others. Respiratory droplets (tiny airborne saliva particles) come out of the mouth while talking and singing, as well as coughing or sneezing. Respiratory droplets can carry viruses in the air. Remember you can carry the COVID-19 virus without knowing it and not get sick, but other people can get sick, and some die.
