The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the citizens aware of yet another scam that has hit the area.
Law-enforcement officials ask: Have you ever had random products delivered to you?
Authorities say it turns out these products are part of an international scam called BRUSHING, which happens when sellers create fake accounts; purchase their own products; and send them to a real address. Investigators said they do it so they can post a verified review online, so they get higher overall ratings.
A Carroll County citizen received a package at her door that had been shipped from the Netherlands by a company based in China. Inside were tiny individual packets which contained a blue-in-color pill. The detailed description of contents said “baking soda”. Until further testing, it is unknown if the item is truly baking soda.
If you receive unexpected packages, authorities say to get in touch with the company that sent the package to make sure someone isn’t fraudulently using your account, if possible. It’s also a good idea to change passwords often on your accounts.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office urges you to not open any unexpected packages sent to your address.
If you have any questions, contact the sheriff’s office at (660) 542-2200 or your local law-enforcement agency.
