With the start of schools across the west-central Missouri area less than a month away, district administrators are struggling with how students are going to be taught, at least at the beginning, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has struck some communities harder than others.
At this point, Chariton County has less than a handful of active cases of the virus, and Keytesville R-III Superintendent Josh Shoemaker says the plan is for his district’s students to return for in-person classes on Tuesday, August 25.
However, Shoemaker acknowledges that plan could change. It will depend a lot on what happens between now and then and what recommendations are made by county health officials.

Shoemaker said the district has a three-phase plan.

Shoemaker says the district is planning on having a full activity schedule, including the start of its eight-man football program. He said the Tigers’ home opener versus Schuyler County is scheduled for Friday, August 28.
