The Lafayette County Health Department has reported, in the last month, there has been a 60-percent increase in the number of cases in the county.
According to Lafayette County Health Department Administrator, Tom Emmerson, there have been 24 new cases reported in the last two weeks, alone.
Two new cases of the virus were reported on Thursday bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 143. Of these cases, 119 persons are considered “recovered”, 21 cases remain active and there has been a total of three deaths in the county related to the virus.
As of Thursday afternoon, the health department is waiting on the results of 306 tests.
Emmerson says it is important to remember that the virus is still prevalent. Lafayette County is continuing to see exposures in public places and at group meetings. He says it is up to all residents to take personal responsibility and protect each other and he urges everyone to use their masks in public places. He also recommends that you do not invite gatherings of other people into your home.
