A couple of felony charges have been filed against a Concordia man for allegedly shooting out of a moving vehicle in Lafayette County on April 8.

According to a probable-cause statement, authorities were dispatched to a report of shots fired on Zoar Road. Dispatch also reported it received another call from an address in the 6200 block of Walkenhorst Road, and the caller said they saw a vehicle traveling southbound on Walkenhorst Road. Dispatch said the second reporting party said they heard three shots, as well.

Authorities located the vehicle, and the driver, James Sheets first said he didn’t fire a weapon; but then said he did. He said he shot at the dirt. A witness in the Sheets’ vehicle said he became mad, pulled out a gun and started waving it around. Sheets put the gun away, but later pulled it out again at fired it three to four times out the window of the moving vehicle.

Sheets, who is now 23, has been charged with a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Shooting from a Moving Vehicle; and a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Exhibiting. Sheets posted $15,000 personal-recognizance bond on April 10.

Sheets entered a plea of not guilty on July 15. His next hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on September 9 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
