Charges have been filed in relation to a homicide in Johnson County over this past weekend.

According to the Warrensburg Police Department, Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Russell has charged 25-year-old Evan R. Lanigan, of Warrensburg, and 28-year-old Christian J. Harrison, of Knob Noster, with the murder of Maliyah Lakey.

The original release from the department said officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Grover to investigate a shooting on Saturday, August 1. When officers arrived, they discovered three shooting victims. An 18-year-old female- Lakey, of Warrensburg- was dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. A 20-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were transported to an area hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries from gunshots.

The Rural Major Case Squad working on this case had nearly 40 investigators and support staff. The squad investigated more than 70 leads and executed search and arrest warrants.

Lanigan has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree. Harrison has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, three counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (a convicted felon in possession of a firearm). Each is being held without bond.

While Lanigan’s initial hearing is pending, Harrison is scheduled for his initial arraignment hearing at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, at Johnson County Circuit Court.
