On July 7, the Saline County Commission approved the appointment of Sandra Walter as interim county auditor to replace Tara Vogelsmeier, who resigned her elected position on July 6.

However, Walter announced her resignation during the meeting of the commission on Thursday, August 13.

Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. asked Walter to give the commission an example while Walter was distributing her resignation letter.

Walter was to fulfill the duties of the auditor until Governor Mike Parson appoints a permanent auditor to fill out that role until the end of the year.

Prior to the General Election in November, the various political committees will select one candidate and submit their recommendation to County Clerk Debbie Russell, who will then place those candidate names, according to political affiliation, on the ballot to go before a vote of the people.

The results of the General Election will determine the person who will serve as Saline County Auditor for the remainder of the current unexpired term, which runs through December 31, 2022.
