
Positive case numbers of COVID-19 increased in several area counties on Thursday, August 13.
According to health department officials, in Pettis County, the total jumped another 13 cases from 554 on Wednesday to 567 on Thursday. With 438 cases recovered and four deaths, there are 125 active cases, including four hospitalized.
Twelve more positive cases were reported in Saline County, increasing its overall total to 464 since the beginning of the pandemic. Due to 391 recoveries (five Thursday) and seven deaths, there are 66 active cases, including two persons hospitalized. Numbers are based on case management provided by the health department staff.
In Cooper County, 10 new cases were reported, bringing its overall total to 164. With 119 patients recovered and two deaths, 43 cases are active, including two persons hospitalized. Ten of the cases are travel related and 154 through community transmission. Fifty-four cases are congregate living (which are included in the total case and community-transmission numbers); 54 are inmates and employees; and three are at nursing homes or assisted-living centers.
Howard County’s number of positive cases increased by seven to 60 overall. With 46 patients recovered- including two on Thursday- there are 14 active cases in the county. Central Methodist University currently is doing surveillance testing of students, which has contributed to the uptick in positive numbers.
The number of positive cases increased by six to 186 since the beginning of the pandemic in Lafayette County. With 137 patients recovered and three deaths, leaving 46 active cases. Just over 10 percent of the county’s population has been tested.
There is some good news in Chariton County as half of the eight active cases were released from observation as recovered on Thursday. In all, there have been 22 positive cases in the county since the beginning of the pandemic.
An update was not given on Thursday in Carroll County. The county reported its first positive case on Wednesday, August 12, since Friday, August 7. All of the other 87 positive cases have recovered.
