For allegedly shooting a gun out of a moving vehicle, a 21-year-old Sedalia resident is facing multiple felony charges.
According to a police report, on August 3, officers responded to the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located seven shell casings in the roadway. Video was obtained from a nearby residence showing a black GMC Yukon XL northbound driving slowly by a maroon Chevrolet Impala parked on the west side of the road. The video further showed the occupants of the Yukon shoot at the Impala and then continue traveling. The Impala, which had at least three occupants, then fled the scene southbound. No victims came forward in the case.
On August 9, officers responded to the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Wagner Avenue for reports of a shooting. A witness called 9-1-1 and described how they had been driving on East Broadway and observed a 2014 maroon Chevrolet Impala pull out in front of them. The witness saw the same vehicle a short time later and described the driver’s hand out the window firing a gun several times before backing out into the street in front of them.
With the witness’ description of the driver and the license-plate number on the car, a warrant has been issued and Zechariah Hoskins-Ellis has been charged with a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Shooting from a Moving Vehicle; a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action; and a weapons-related misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $75,000 cash or surety.
Hoskins-Ellis’ initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
