Concerns were raised by officials in area cities about how much money is scheduled to be distributed to them through the Develop Saline County sales-tax fund.

During the meeting of the Develop Saline County Advisory Board on Wednesday, August 19, Sweet Springs City Clerk Michelle Fuehring said the $100,000 the county commission was going to issue to her city as well as Slater, Marshall and the other smaller communities in the county is not what was agreed to at the beginning. Fuehring and Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden discussed it.

Slater City Administrator Gene Griffith concurred with Fuehring.

After other input from commissioners, Marshall City Administrator David Haugland and Ward 1 Councilman Leon Thompson, as well as Kirby McCullough, who was overseeing the meeting and representing the Village of Arrow Rock, McCullogh suggested the board meet again within the next couple of weeks to come to an agreement on the amount of the payments for this year to be doled out to the entities. The date and site of that meeting is to be determined.

The checks are scheduled to be distributed in October.

Saline County voters approved the half-cent sales-tax measure during the April 2018 Municipal Election. The collection of the tax began in October 2018 and will sunset on December 31, 2038. About a third of the estimated total of $22 million is earmarked to be used to get water and sewer and other infrastructure in place to attract businesses to the Marshall Junction area.
