At the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, August 20, Clerk Debbie Russell gave an update on the auditor position, which has been open since interim auditor Sandra Walter resigned during the commission meeting on August 13.

Governor Mike Parson’s appointee to the position will only fill the position until the end of this calendar year.

Russell said she is asking for the central committees to submit their nominations for candidates to be placed on the ballot during the November General Election. Russell said her office needs that information by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21, so it can be certified on August 25. She added, those candidates are required to come in and do their candidate-filing paperwork and pay a $50 fee.

Russell further explained the process, which was recommended by Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft.

Tara Vogelsmeier resigned as auditor on July 6, and Walter was appointed by the commission and sworn in as interim auditor on July 7.
