Governor Mike Parson has made his selection for the appointment of the Saline County Auditor, but will not make the name available until September 1.

A news release from Saline County Clerk Debbie Russell says the Governor made his selection from candidates who were recommended by the Democrat and Republican Central Committees and from candidates who may have submitted their application to his office on their own.

Russell received word from Kyle Aubuchon, Boards and Commissions Director with the office of Governor Mike Parson, stating Russell will be sent a letter giving the name of the appointee just prior to September 1. After receipt of the letter, Russell says she plans to make the announcement official and perform the swearing in ceremony.

The appointee will serve through December 31, 2020.

Tara Vogelsmeier resigned as elected auditor on July 6. Sandra Walter, who was appointed by the county commission and sworn in on July 7, resigned as interim auditor during the Saline County Commission meeting on August 13.

The release also says on Thursday, August 20, the Democrat and Republican Central Committee chairs presented their candidate nominations to the county clerk for the position of Saline County Auditor, requesting each candidate’s name appear on the upcoming General Election ballot on Tuesday, November 3. The names submitted were Republican candidate Karlin Breshears and Democratic candidate Jeron Tetteh. Both Breshears and Tetteh have filled out their required candidate-filing paperwork and paid their fees with the county clerk’s office.

After the November General Election, the newly-elected auditor will serve out the remainder of the unexpired term left behind by Vogelsmeier. The unexpired term will begin January 1, 2021, and run through December 31, 2022.

Russell explained that candidate filing for the regular four-year term for the auditor’s position will begin early in 2022, along with other elected officials whose positions will be up in 2022.
