A 20-year-old House Springs resident has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle.

According to a report from a Cooper County deputy, on August 7, he responded to the area of the 94 mile marker on I-70 in reference to a vehicle fire. Dispatch advised that a white male subject wearing a white tank top and blue jeans and in possession of a red backpack had fled the area. The vehicle on fire was confirmed stolen out of St. Louis.

A short time later, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from a residence on Route M in Cooper County. The Silverado was later located abandoned at a Quick Trip gas station in Gladstone. Authorities obtained a photograph of a white male with a red backpack who abandoned the truck at the gas station.

Later on August 7, Charles Lawrence Olson was taken into custody in Lafayette County while tempting to steal another motor vehicle. When taken into custody, Olson was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans and had a red backpack.

Olson has been charged with a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.

Olson’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
