An inmate at an area jail has been charged with a felony after an incident on July 1.
A probable-cause statement says Darryl Kelley was involved in a fight at the Boonville Correctional Center, and after it was stopped by a correction officer, Kelley picked up a broom and broke the handle of the room against the kiosk machine. Kelley then went to the bathroom area where other correction officers were keeping other offenders who were involved in a fight in the bathroom until other staff arrived to assist with the situation. Kelley pushed the other correction officer in the back while holding the broom handle in his hands in a threatening posture. Once other staff arrived, they escorted Kelley outside of the housing unit, where he resisted being put in hand restraints to be escorted to the segregation unit.
Kelley has been charged with a Class B Felony for Violence to an Employee of the Department Corrections and a Class D Felony for Damage to the Department of Corrections Building. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Kelley’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
