Some demolition work will begin in Marshall in the near future.
Marshall Municipal Utilities’ General Manager Jeff Bergstrom said asbestos removal is under way at the power plant.
Bergstrom said the demolition of some of the exterior structures- the cooling tower that sits on the north side and other structures that aren’t attached to the plant, including some of the bag houses where there’s not asbestos- will begin in the next two to three weeks. He said it will probably be a couple of more months before demolition of the main power plant building will begin. Plans are in place for relocation of personnel.
Bergstrom also said the company is working on its budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It will be submitted to the city council for approval in September. The city’s next fiscal year begins on October 1.
