On July 27, a vehicle was driven onto and caused thousands of dollars in damage to the grass turf on Cecil Naylor Field on the Marshall High School campus. The alleged driver- 35-year-old Michael Terrell Baker- has been charged with a property-damage felony.
During the Marshall School Board meeting on Tuesday, August 25, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Terry Lorenz gave an update on how the sod can be replaced. He said nobody is in favor of a patch job. He said the bid for $74,000-plus is for replacement of all of the sod on the field and will be covered by insurance money.
However, rather than rubber-stamp a decision to replace the current surface with new sod, board member Ellen Lance floated another idea that involves field turf and the aging track.
After that, the board voted to table a decision on the replacement of the sod and irrigation system or something else until a future meeting.
