There has been a lot of confusion in regards to the demolition of the old power plant in Marshall. KMMO spoke with MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom to get some clarification on the project.

Bergstrom said the newest generator in the power plant is over 50 years old.

He said the asbestos needed to come out of the building and tearing down the plant would save money in the long run.

Bergstrom said several people toured the building including council members and the mayor.

After many discussions, MMU and the city did not want to have another building in the city that would sit abandoned. The contractors are currently working on the abatement and should start working on some of the structures that are not attatched to building in the next couple of weeks.
