Classes have started in the Sweet Springs R-7 School District.

According to minutes from the school board meeting on Thursday, August 27, as part of her report, superintendent Lori Price said the number of Pre-K through sixth-grade students is 212; and seventh- through 12th-grade students is 199 in the district. She said the district has 411 students attending in-person classes and eight students learning virtually.

In other news, representatives of Howe Company, LLC, gave an update on the parking-lot construction project. They said the final concrete pour is scheduled for Monday, August 31. The crew will be working to try to get the area completed in time for the first home football game on Friday, September 4.

In an action taken, the board voted to set the district’s tax levy at $3.9293, with $3.0424 going toward the incidental fund and $0.8769 to the debt-service fund.
