On July 6, longtime elected Saline County Auditor Tara Vogelsmeier resigned. On July 7, Sandra Walter was appointed Interim Auditor by the county commission. Walter resigned on August 13, and the county has been operating without an auditor since then.

Governor Mike Parson made his appointment, and Karlin Breshears, who worked in the Circuit Clerk’s office, took the “Oath of Office” during meeting of the commission on Tuesday, September 1. Clerk Debbie Russell was absent, so Treasurer Marty Smith swore in Breshears.

Circuit Clerk Becky Uhlich explained her office will not be hiring anybody to replace Breshears.

Again, Breshears will fill out the rest of this calendar year as auditor. The election in November will decide who will serve the rest of the unexpired term of Vogelsmeier, which will run from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022.
