During the meeting of the Marshall Park Board on Wednesday, September 2, Marshall Parks and Recreation Director Chad Unterreiner told the board about a possibility the park has to lease Osage Field for some baseball games next summer.

Unterreiner said the group will sell tickets for the games. The snag is the group also needs the ability to sell alcohol during the games.

Unterreiner said the Marshall Optimist Club is fine with not running the concession stand. The league will be in charge of that. He also said the dates will not interfere with Little League or Missouri Valley College. In addition, the teams will sell sponsorships for signs that will be placed for the duration of their season- the length of the lease- not all year.

The lease proposed is for 30 nights, with 25 of them reserved for game nights and the extra five for rainouts.

Unterreiner says the lease is for $3,500 for the field and $1,800 for the loss of revenue from the concession stand for $5,300 total.

Board President Scott Fann said there are many positives with this potential agreement.

City Administrator David Haugland explained what the park board needs to do about approaching the city council regarding the selling of alcohol during the games.

So, the board voted to proceed to see if the city council will approve suspending the two ordinances Haugland talked about. It is scheduled to be presented during the next council meeting on Tuesday, September 8.
