An area county’s first COVID-19-related death was confirmed on Friday, September 4.

According to health-department officials in Howard County, 29 new positive cases were reported as well, increasing its overall total to 190 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 114 positive patients recovered and one death, 75 cases are active, including one person hospitalized. Officials also note Central Methodist University in Fayette is doing surveillance testing.

In Saline County, 20 newly-diagnosed positive cases were confirmed, bringing its overall total to 586. With 503 positive patients recovered and nine deaths, there are 74 active cases, including four persons hospitalized.

Eight additional positive cases were reported in Pettis County, increasing its overall total to 799. With 680 positive patients recovered and nine deaths, there are 110 active cases, including two persons hospitalized.

In Lafayette County, seven new positive cases were confirmed, upping its total to 260. With three deaths and a total of 209 recoveries- including six on Friday, there are 48 active cases.

Two new positive cases were reported in Chariton County, increasing its total to 53. Since 26 positive patients have recovered, 27 cases are active.

Cooper County reported one more positive case, increasing its total to 250. With 206 recoveries and three deaths, there are 41 active cases. Eleven positive cases are travel related and 239 are through community transmission. Of the 117 congregate-living cases, 79 are inmates and 38 are employees. Thirteen positive patients are from nursing or assisted-living homes.

An update was not available from Carroll County. As of Thursday, September 3, there were 99 total positive cases in the county. With 93 of them reported as recovered, there were six active cases at that time.
