A 46-year-old North Carolina man is facing a couple of drug related felonies following a traffic stop in Lafayette County in May.
According to a probable cause statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on May 11 at approximately 11:50 a.m., a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, displaying Idaho tags, that he observed cutting in on an overtaken vehicle on Interstate 70.
The driver, identified as Jeffrey Carmichael, refused a consensual search of his vehicle that prompted the trooper to call in assistance from the Oak Grove Police Department and their canine unit. The canine indicated that there was some form of drugs in the vehicle during his exterior sniff.
A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed 35 packages of marijuana (each weighing approximately one pound), and ten containers of THC infused edibles, that weighed approximately 300 grams that were concealed with the marijuana inside two duffle bags.
Carmichael is charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery Of Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Marijuana Or Synthetic Cannabinoid and a Class D Felony for Possession Of Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Marijuana/Synthetic Cannabinoid.
Carmichael entered a plea of not guilty during his initial arraignment on September 16. A Hearing in this case is scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
