A few meetings ago, several Marshall residents expressed concern about a proposed fence ordinance, and the council did not approve the first reading of the document.

During the council meeting on Monday, September 21, Mayor Julie Schwetz explained the Planning and Zoning Commission did not receive any input from citizens on any possible changes at its last couple of meetings.

Councilmen again raised concerns about 30 inches of property between fences, just as a particular citizen did on the night it was first presented to the council.

City Inspector and Code Official Mike Morgan explained the P&Z Commission wanted feedback from residents to try to fix the proposed ordinance.

After more discussion, Mayor Schwetz asked for a motion to set the public hearing for October 19. No motion was given, so that particular ordinance died on the floor.

In other news, the council approved the appointment of Richard Machholz to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill out an unexpired term until November 1, 2022.

The council also set a public hearing regarding the city’s Code of Ordinances to be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 19.
