An member of an area school district’s faculty has been recognized as an outstanding teacher.

According to a press release from Sedalia School District 200, Smith-Cotton High School ELA teacher and library media specialist Dr. Lorin Blackburn Thierfelder has been named a University of Chicago Outstanding Educator.

She was nominated for the honor by Samuel Cody, a member of Smith-Cotton’s Class of 2020.

For more than 30 years, the university has asked incoming freshmen to recommend educators who challenged them intellectually or helped students channel their interests into opportunity.
