scam-alert-8-22-20

Area authorities have issued another scam alert.

According to the Cooper Sheriff’s Office, everyone needs to be aware that the office is receiving reports indicating that citizens are receiving calls that are supposed to be coming from the sheriff’s office.

The caller is spoofing the sheriff’s office’s number which makes the call look like it is originating from the office.

The caller is then telling citizens that warrants have been issued for them.

If you receive a call that appears to be coming from the sheriff’s office, and the caller indicates that a warrant has been issued for you, you are urged to:
1) Kindly tell the caller that you are busy and that you will call the office back immediately.
2) Look up the phone number to the office; call it back and inquire if it had just called you regarding a warrant.

Authorities urge residents to not allow themselves to get pulled into this scam.
