Oak Grove High School captured the Buddy and Karla Hannaford Sweepstakes Award at the 2020 Missouri Days Virtual Marching Festival over the weekend in Trenton.

A news release says 30 schools from Missouri and Iowa competed in the virtual competition. Trenton High School also performed in exhibition.

Claiming first place honors in Class 1 were Stewartsville in Parade; North Andrew in Indoor Auxiliary; and Moravia, Iowa, in Indoor Percussion. There were no Field Show participants in Class 1.

Taking first place in Class 2 was Scotland County in both Parade and Indoor Auxiliary; Mid-Buchanan in Indoor Percussion; and IKM-Manning, Iowa, in Field Show.

Class 3 awards were claimed by Clark County in Parade; and Hermann swept the other three categories – Indoor Auxiliary, Indoor Percussion and Field Show.

Oak Grove won three of the four categories in Class 4, with Sullivan chosen as the Field Show winner.

Poplar Bluff High School won top honors in Indoor Auxiliary and Indoor Percussion, with North Kansas City winning the Field Show competition in Class 5. There were no entries in the Parade competition in Class 5.

For the first time, the audience was able to vote for “Viewers Choice” by “liking” the performances on the Marching Festival facebook page, and receiving the most votes in each overall category was Stewartsville in Parade; Worth County in Indoor Auxiliary; Moravia, Iowa, in Indoor Percussion; and IKM-Manning, Iowa, in Field Show.

Plans are already under way for the 2021 Missouri Days Marching Festival with hopes of returning to live competitions. The event is scheduled to be held on October 16.
