A 30-year-old Sedalia is facing a felony for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

According to a Sedalia Police report, on June 17, an officer conducted a vehicle check in the parking lot of Motel 6 on West Broadway Boulevard. The officer received confirmation from dispatch that the tan-colored Nissan Pathfinder was reported as stolen.

A man exited the vehicle and was walking around. The officer approached and arrested the man. Another officer told the arresting officer the keys were not inside the vehicle, but she located them lying in some gravel about 10 feet behind the vehicle, which was consistent with being thrown by Christopher Demus as he was walking around the vehicle.

Demus has been charged with a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.

Demus was arraigned on September 28. A hearing in this case is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
