Two weeks ago, Marshall Municipal Utilities’ General Manager Jeff Bergstrom expressed his concerns about a particular sewer system that could be selected for the economic development project at Marshall Junction.

From what he has been able to find out, Bergstrom said he is not in favor of the county commissioners approving the installation of the BiO2 system and the MMU Board of Public Works agreed. Bergstrom pointed out the DNR violations at each location where this system has been installed in the last 20 years.

During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, October 29, Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. said nothing has been decided.

Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden said….

Gooden said it’s a moot point about BiO2 at this time.

Guthrey said the commission hasn’t looked at even one system.

Commissioners said they do not have a time line on making a decision with which system to install.

It was pointed out Flotron & McIntosh lobbyist Bill Stouffer had indicated construction of the sewer system was tentatively scheduled to begin early next year. However, commissioners say there is no time line at this point.

The Saline County Economic Development Advisory Board voted to start the bonding process for the sewer part of the project. It was estimated to be a 60- to 90-day process. Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner says he thinks it will be about February 1, 2021, but that’s just a guess.
