
Valda M. Coleman, age 90, of Slater, died Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 1, at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Paul List officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat, in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born February 23, 1930, north of Slater, she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Geneva E. Harris Coleman.
She is survived by a brother, Ralph Coleman of Jefferson City; a niece, Sharon Shippy; three nephews, Leo Honeywell, Royce Coleman, and Colby Coleman; nine great-nephews; four great-nieces; and nine great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Honeywell.
Miss Coleman was a long-time active member of the First Baptist Church in Slater, serving as pianist and organist for many years. She also taught Sunday School to fourth and fifth graders at the church. She attended grade school at Sharon, and was a 1947 graduate of Slater High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for thirty-eight years at Slater Cooperative Association #1, until her retirement in 1985.
