Just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Marshall Fire Department was called out to 895 N. US Highway 65 in regards to a transformer throwing sparks.
The first report was at about 11:03 a.m. and fire fighters arrived on the scene around 11:06 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found a utility pole down, wires cut and laying across the ground and storage items. Fire fighters could see a small flame through a window of the building on the property. Additional personnel was requested for a structure fire and the Marshall Fire Department requested the assistance of the utility company.
Fire fighters had to cut the locks off of the doors to gain entry to the building to extinguish the fire and put out hot spots. Evergy arrived and cut power to the building.
The last unit left the scene at approximately 12:25 p.m. after releasing the building to the owner. No injuries were reported and it is unknown at this time the estimated dollar amount of the damage.
