An area school district has announced its students will be moving away from in-person learning.

According to a release from Malta Bend R-5 Superintendent John Angelhow, the district will be transitioning from in-person learning to distance learning on Monday, November 16.

He says the district is prioritizing the needs of the staff and students by making every effort to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Angelhow says “The district feels that for the mental and physical well being of all involved in the education process here at Malta Bend, as well as doing our part to flatten the curve of COVID-19 in our community, we will remain in distance learning until after Christmas break. It is our intent to move back to in-person learning on January 4, 2021.”

Students will briefed on educational expectations for the remainder of the fall semester on the final day of in-person learning- Friday, November 13.

The district will be providing both breakfast and lunch for its students. Students who are transported by school bus will have both meals dropped off at their homes. Breakfast drop-off will begin at 7 a.m.; and lunch drop-off will begin at 11 a.m. Students who live in town will be able to come by the school to pick up breakfast between 7:30 and 8 a.m. and lunch between 11:30 a.m. and noon.
