The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo programs finished the fall portion of their 2020-21 season, by winning the Murray State (Ky.) rodeo over the weekend. The men’s team had five event winners.

Leading the Valley men’s team were Freshman Ty Pope (Waverly, Kan.) and Senior Roy Lee (Benton, Ark.) who each won the average in two events.

Pope finished first in the bareback riding average, with a 146. He placed second in the first go-round with a 72, and tied for first in the second go-round with a 74. He collected 165 total points in the event. Pope also finished first in the saddle bronc riding average with a 151. He won the first go-round with an 81, and finished third in the second go-round with a 40. He earned 160 total points in the event.

Lee won the calf roping average with a 17.4. He placed sixth in the first go-round with a 9.1 and won the second go-round with an 8.3. He earned 130 total points in the event. Lee also finished on top of the steer wrestling average with a 9.8. He tied for first in the first go-round with an 8.3 and won the second go-round with a 4.5. He earned 175 points in the event.

Also capturing first in the average was Senior Kolten Achenbach (Boscobel, Wis.) in bull riding. Achenbach finished second in the first go-round with a 75, and scored an 81 to win the second go-round. He finished a 156 in the average to earn 170 points.

Senior Nick Pelke (Mondovi, Wis.) finished second in the bareback riding average with a 143. He won the event’s first go-round with a 75. He earned 150 points.

Junior Tucker Alberts (Howell, Mich.) finished second in the steer wrestling average with an 11.2. He tied for first in the first go-round with a 55 and finished with 145 total points.

The Lady Vikings were led by Senior Fallon Dyer (Ottawa, Kan.), who finished second in the breakaway roping average with a 5.8. She placed second in the first go-round with a 2.6 and fourth in the second go-round with a 3.2. She earned 125 total points.

Sophomore Taylor Mason (Marshall, Mo.) finished third in the goat tying average with a 15.9 to earn 105 total points. Junior Ana Minnick (Mexico, Mo.) finished third in the barrel racing average with a 29.47 and earned 110 total points.

The Valley men’s team finished with 890 total points. Tennessee-Martin was second with 510 points. The Lady Vikings won their first rodeo of the season, collecting 320 total points. Arkansas-Monticello finished second with 205 points.

The next rodeo will take place February 18-20 at East Mississippi Community College in Meridian, Miss.
